| I have two products available for
download. These are T/Maker (the only spreadsheet based
entirely on arithmetic) and WildWords
(the
only crossword game where every word can be played). Both
of these
programs are written as Java Desktop Applications. This allowed me to
have just one version of
each program that
can run under Windows or on a Mac or a number of other environments. It also allows a consistent look across those platforms. To
run either
or both, you will need Version 8 of something known as the Java
Runtime
Environment
(JRE) from Oracle on your machine. AI reports JREs are installed on over a billion machines. There is not a more practical and perfectly legal choice than downloading the JRE from Oracle on your own. It installs itself easily along side all the other drivers, dynamic libraries, and supporting processes you already have. You will have the best and latest version. It also means you can take T/Maker and your tables or WildWords to any other machine that has the JRE and run it there -- Mac, Windows, and many others. Prior to 2018 persons like myself were allowed to distribute the JRE directly to you. Oracle removed that option at that time. It is no longer legal. I would suggest you create one folder to put everything downloaded from my sites (not the JRE which finds its own place). You can rearrange folders later for long term purposes. |
After
downloading the latest JRE, I recommend you download the two program
files separately. These are TMaker.jar and WildWords.jar. You can get
everything in just one download but that means I have to put the
programs and T/Maker's examples into a type of file known as a Zip.
Such a file is also compressed. Security software tends to look at Zip
files with the utmost suspicion since it cannot know its contents.
The all-in-one Zip download option is none the less listed below. It
may go smoothly, but sometimes it can prove to be a hassle.  Those who wish to avoid any download besides the JRE can request a thumb drive with T/Maker, all examples, and WildWords.Write me an email. I will answer with information how to do that.  To do it, you must follow the plan
in the video.Start by clicking the underlined link to go to Java's official website. On the page that appears, click Download Java For Desktops. Then take the link lower down the page to a variety of JRE versions for different machines. Choose your machine and operating system. Windows machines these days would tyically use the Offline 64-bit verison. If you have a question, searches for a well-worded one usually get an informative answer with AI. There may be some delays here and there. Be patient. Eventually there should be a notification that the installation was successful as shown in the video above. |
 WildWords
is just a single small file. Below is a link to download it. Know where
you put it
and simply run it or move it once it has been downloaded. This is about
a one half second download. To run a jar file after the JRE has
been installed you can click it (WildWords.jar) as you would any other
program.You may get a message and some box to confirm that you do want to do this download and keep it. Also, when you first run the .jar file you may have to confirm that. On a Mac I had to click the Apple icon in the upper left corner, choose Privacy and Security, and then I got a box showing the previous message with a button to ignore that message. On one Windows machine I had to bring up a box called The Defender and exempt that .jar file from the typical controls. AI gives good answers for these issues when you explain them clearly.  T/Maker is also just a quick download of a single
small file. You will not get the examples with it but there is that link above to obtain any of them. You can also update an
older version with a new one by replacing just the TMaker.jar file.
This is simpler then getting the .zip below and having to extract

| Beware: This requires downloading a zip file which some security systems will not be happy about. Also: This can be mailed on a thumb drive if you have trouble doing it on your own. Noted above. A complete T/Maker including examples plus a WildWords.jar can all be downloaded into one root directory. The download is a Zip (.zip) type file which holds compressed versions of every element. The work to be done is to download the zip file and extract the files. You may face some confirmation boxes or other issues. On my Mac machine, the extraction was done automatically. On Windows I had to right click on the zip file and choose "Extract All Files". To run a jar file after the JRE has been installed you can click it (TMaker.jar) as you would any other program.
